Naomh Eoin’s first visit to the camogie
Féile finals was a great success in reality despite the fact that we didn’t get past the section stage of the tournament.
From the start of the season we knew that 2010 would be a struggle with only 13 under 14 players available. We had lost nine
of our under 14 league winning squad from last season and knew we would be relying on a relatively untried under 12 squad,
with very few games behind them last season, for new players. Gone are the days when half a dozen new girls would transfer
in from other clubs during the spring. We were written off by most people even within our own club before the season started
and the girls proved everybody wrong by becoming county Féile champions for the first time in our camogie section’s
history. The squad of 24 camógs we sent to Féile actually contained 10 of this season’s under12 team.
In our first game against host team Craughwell
of Galway Naomh Eoin raced into an early lead with Niamh Adams on fire. This lead however was gradually frittered away due
to defensive errors largely caused by inexperience and possibly `coach lag`, from the previous day’s long journey and
major highs of excitement. We eventually rallied to make a serious game of it but lost by two goals 4-4 to 6-4 in a game we
could have won. Niamh Adams with three goals and Fionnghuala Rocks with 1-4 were our scorers.
Our second game against Galway champions Sarsfields was
a tight affair. We went a point down but captain Eimhear Costello levelling the scores in what developed into an exciting
game. Goals from Sarah Vaughan and Niamh Adams and a point from Roxy gave us a well deserved draw against a strong local team.
Within a short time the girls were in against
Kilkenny champions Danesfort who scored two fortunate goals but failed to take even one point against an inspired Naomh Eoin
side .Four points from frees from Roxy and two from the consistent Niamh Adams earned us a draw against a team which was expected
to wipe the floor with us. Kilkenny shirts however don’t frighten our brave camógs as we see them every day in O’Neill’s
windows! Two points didn’t earn us a place in the semi-final but our performances did earn the respect of everyone at
Féile including the Danesfort manager who told our mentors we had some of the best players he had seen in Féile.
This great festival of Gaelic games was all about
development for Naomh Eoin. Our girls can be proud of what they have achieved during the experience of a lifetime in Galway and Clare. Congratulations also to u14 manager Rhona Torney, her sister –in –arms
Aishling Jackson and all our mentors. Naomh Eoin Abú!
A big Naomh Eoin Welcome to AISLÍN QUINN (yellow helmet centre) our newest camóg who has recently joined us from Naomh
Pól for whom she will continue to play ladies football.
ÁDH MÓR ORT A AISLÍN !
Johnny Corrigan - our mascot.
80 year old Johnny says, " Anyone can walk into O'Neills on the Andersonstown Road
and buy a St.Johns shirt, a hurley and a helmet- but that doesn't make them a Johnny..What it takes is skill, guts , committment
and a heart that tells them that they are never beaten. I would ask every girl who puts on a blue shirt to remember this and
ask yourself if your performances have fallen below your abilities.Whether you are a senior camóg ,an u16 ,an u14 or a tiny
u12 camóg please wear the shirt with pride and never give less than 100%.Anything less is beneath your dignity as a child
of Naomh Eoin..
Naomh Eoin County Féile champions 2010

Rhona stares in disbelief as County chairperson Kevin Gormley presents Eimhear, captain of Torney's Tots, with the Féile
shield.
